Keeping the Moon by Sarah Dessen

Keeping the Moon
Good Reads Summary
Keeping the Moon by Sarah Dessen

Colie expects the worst when she's sent to spend the summer with her eccentric aunt Mira while her mother, queen of the television infomercial, tours Europe. Always an outcast-first for being fat and then for being "easy"-Colie has no friends at home and doesn't expect to find any in Colby, North Carolina. But then she lands a job at the Last Chance Café and meets fellow waitresses Morgan and Isabel, best friends with a loving yet volatile relationship. Wacky yet wise, Morgan and Isabel help Colie see herself in a new way and realize the potential that has been there all along.

My Thoughts
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

you've got to hand it to dessen: she writes girls and their friends with so much detail that they all come to life. it's a sweet story of a girl seeing her worth with the help of some pretty awesome others. the 'others' in this instance include girls who've lived through what she's living through, women who are strong in their own way, and yes even a boy who sees things for what they are.

and while there's saving done here, it's not done by the boy for his damsel in distress. rather it's friends and family and self that do so. so i enjoyed this even more for the same. then consider that the lot of them are quirky characters, all marching to the beat of their own drum... an you know what? when you take them all together. well, they made sense.

good stuff... as usual.
